Canyoning

Image is loading

Canyoning is the traversal of gorges without the use of watercraft, combining elements of hiking, rock climbing, and water adventures. It is a vivid, emotion-filled activity for lovers of outdoor and active recreation.

In the Syunik region, about four hours from Yerevan, lies one of the most impressive canyoning spots - the Devil’s Bridge.

Canyoning beneath the Devil’s Bridge is an exciting journey along a water route that includes rope descents, jumps into the water, swimming, and overcoming natural obstacles. All of this takes place against the backdrop of the picturesque landscapes of Tatev - one of the most beautiful corners of Syunik.

No special physical training or swimming skills are required to participate - if needed, everyone is provided with a life jacket. The group is accompanied by experienced instructors who ensure safety at every stage and help participants complete the route comfortably and confidently.

All necessary equipment - wetsuits, helmets, life jackets, and safety systems - is provided by the company.

It’s a great way to try something new, spend the day actively and vividly, and most importantly - in complete safety under the supervision of professionals.

Diving and Windsurfing

Just 60 kilometers from Yerevan lies one of the world’s largest high-altitude freshwater lakes - Lake Sevan. About 250 rare species of plants and fish live in its clear waters, and they can be observed while scuba diving.

Thanks to favorable water temperatures, depth, and location, the lake is well suited even for beginner divers. Depending on the season and weather conditions, water visibility can reach up to 10 meters. On the bottom of Lake Sevan, you can see stromatolites - some of the oldest living organisms on Earth. Today, only a few such natural formations remain worldwide.

To dive into Lake Sevan, you can turn to:

To soar along a steel cable over a gorge, no special training or exceptional physical fitness is required. All you need is determination. And Armenia offers plenty of zip lines to suit every taste:

Zipline Kapan - the longest zipline in Armenia

In Kapan, you’ll find the longest zipline in Armenia - 1,760 meters. Its distinctive feature is that the route runs directly over the city and an international highway. Keep in mind that the drive from Yerevan to Kapan takes about five hours, but the journey is accompanied by breathtaking scenery.

For those short on time, there is an alternative option - a flight from Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan to Syunik Airport in Kapan will take you there in just 40 minutes.

Caving

In Armenia’s Vayots Dzor region, located about a two-hour drive from Yerevan, you can explore several caves at once. Among them are Areni-1, better known as the Birds’ Cave, and Magellan Cave. The latter is considered one of the largest caves in the country and was named after hunter Magellan Arakelyan, who discovered it in 1980. To date, only part of the cave has been explored - about 1.7 km - while its numerous passages still hide their secrets, known perhaps only to the eight species of bats that inhabit these dark depths.

Hiking and Trekking

Armenia’s mountain landscapes - Azhdahak, Aragats, and Khustup - leave lasting impressions regardless of the chosen route. Azhdahak is a dormant volcano rising to 3,597.3 meters, covered with snow for most of the year and featuring a picturesque crater lake at its summit. Aragats is the highest mountain in the country (4,090 meters); archaeologists regularly discover ancient sanctuaries and settlements on its slopes. Khustup, reaching 3,206 meters, is the highest point of the Khustup–Katara range and impresses with panoramic views that rival those of much higher peaks.

For experienced travelers, a multi-day trek along the Transcaucasian Trail - ranked by CNN Travel as one of the world’s best hiking routes - is an excellent challenge. The trail runs through Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. The Armenian section connects the monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat (both UNESCO World Heritage sites), the scenic Gegham Mountains, and the summit of Mount Aragats.

Mountain Hiking

Leaving Armenia without visiting the mountains is a real missed opportunity. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for organizing hikes here. You can choose a one-day ascent, for example to Aragats, Azhdahak, or even Ararat. Such routes are easy to include in a week-long tour, combining them with jeep tours or walks through picturesque gorges and forest trails.
